Do you pee a little when you sneeze or cough?

Affectionately termed “peezing”. Leaking urine with coughing or sneezing is common, but not something you need to live with. Absolutely get evaluated by a pelvic floor therapist to help!

In the meantime, here are some simple hacks to try to help keep you dry when you cough or sneeze!

Simple Tips and Tricks to Prevent Peezing

  1. When you feel a cough or sneeze coming on and you’re standing, lift one foot off the ground a few inches. This will help activate your pelvic floor muscles more as your body is now trying to balance on one leg.
  2. Lift one elbow up and out while coughing or sneezing into that elbow. This will ensure the pressure goes up and out rather than straight down onto your bladder.
  3. Hinge forward at the hips— this will place your pubic bone in a position that is better able to support your bladder therefore exerting less pressure down onto the bladder.
